Snakeroot
Sanicula marilandica L.
Plant Description:
- Upright, prairie plant growing up to 1 m tall; found in moist wooded areas
- Leaves form at base on long stalks, while upper leaves are stalkless
- May have up to 7 leaflets with toothed edges
- Umbrella-shaped cluster of green flowers
- Natives used as treatment for kidney problems, fevers, skin conditions, nervous conditions and sore throats
- Rumored that when taken it will find where the ailment is and begin fighting it
- Found at Stop 1 - on the Interpretive Nature and Hiking Trails
