Northern gooseberry
Ribes oxyacanthoides L. var. oxyacanthoides
Plant Description:
- Short, spiny bush found in woodlands; growing up to 1 m high
- White flowers
- Fruit is a reddish-purple berry
- Stem thorns were used as tattoo needles
- Berries can be made into jams and pies
- Found at Stop 1 - on the Interpretive Nature Trail
