Beaked hazelnut
Corylus cornuta Marsh.
Plant Description:
- Open-forest shrub growing up to 3 m high
- Leaves broadly oval
- Small nuts enclosed by united bracts with beaks
- Shelled nuts are edible
- Branches make good arrows
- Rroots and inner bark can be used for making a blue dye
- Found at Stop 1 - on the Intrepretive Nature Trail
