Trembling aspen
Populus tremuloides Michx.
Plant Description:
- Very widespread, skinny white-barked trees growing to 30 m high
- Pointed round-bottomed leaves that look like hearts
- Occurs in disturbed areas
- An early succession plant and is usually a pioneer species, found in moist areas, ravines and hollows
- Can reproduce without seeds, using underground shoots to grow clones. This helps in the early establishment of the species in disturbed sites.
- Tea can be made to treat liver and kidney problems and earaches
- Beavers prefer aspens for building their homes
- Found at Stops 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, and 12
