Smooth wild strawberry

Plant Description:

  • Creeping herb that grows in moist depressions on the Prairies and in moist open-woodlands
  • Leaflets are coarsely toothed
  • White flowers; fruits are reddish and almost round - much smaller than those grown commercially
  • Strawberry Tea was used for curing insanity and as a wash for skin problems
  • Wilting leaves are poisonous, but are safe when dried
  • Fruit is used in jam, jellies and pastries
  • Found at Stop 1- on the Interpretive Nature and Hiking Trails
