Plant Description:

  • Low-growing, large and flattened cacti that bear reddish scale leaves that fall off early; grow in large groups
  • Scarlet mallow may grow nearby as both grow in overgrazed and disturbed sites
  • Long spines with tufted bristles
  • Noticeable yellow to pinky-orange flowers
  • Found at Stop 2
