Plant Description:

  • Tall tree with reddish bark
  • Tree looks umbrella shaped
  • Strongly veined oval leaves with toothed edges
  • Fruit is winged
  • Occurs in the open-forests
  • Dutch Elm Disease has killed many elms
  • The decomposing leaves are high in potassium and calcium and improve the soil around the tree
  • Found at Stops 1, 2, 6, and 8
