Slide 37:

The funnel-web spiders build their webs close to the ground in grassy areas. The webs become very conspicuous after heavy dew. The web itself is dense and sheet-like, and tapers into a tube, which leads to a shallow burrow or sheltered retreat.

The spider hides in the tunnel, emerging when it detects the movements of an insect crossing the web. The prey is bitten and carried back to the den to be eaten.
