As large and complex as crayfish are, our crustaceans are still restricted to an aquatic environment, where conditions are most uniform, and less hostile than on land. All of the invertebrates we have seen, except for chelicerates like the spiders and scorpions, are restricted to water, or moist locations in the soil, or under stones and logs.
