Slide 57:
Amphipods found in Saskatchewan are aquatic, and can be found in almost every body of water. Usually we see them scurrying along just above the bottom. The name amphipod refers to the arrangement of legs with those in front directed forward and down, and those in the rear directed backward, and sometimes upwards. The body is compressed sideways, and usually has a humpback appearance. The eyes and both pair of antennae are well-developed sense organs. Amphipods are scavengers, eating all types of organic matter.
