Slide 47:
The only group of chelicerates, which is truly aquatic in Saskatchewan, is the water mites. These are round animals, which crawl on aquatic vegetation, or swim with a rather uncoordinated flailing of hair-fringed legs. Many are small, about one millimeter in diameter, but we have at least one bright red species, which may be three or four millimeters in diameter. Most are carnivorous, preying on a variety of aquatic invertebrates, but some may be scavengers. The larvae are parasitic on aquatic insects.
