Marsh reed grass
Calamogrutis canadensis (Michx.) Beauv.
Plant Description:
- Wetland grass growing up to 150 cm high
- Smooth sheaths with relaxed blades
- Flowers droop and have fine, straight awns
- Found in marshes, lake shores and moist areas
- An important food for bison
- Cree used this plant to make mattresses and to line winter storage pits
- Found at Stops 3, 6, and 12
