Fireweed
Epilobium angustifolium L.
Plant Description:
- A very noticeable roadside flower, growing up to 150 cm
- Sword-shaped leaves that are opposite from each other, with prominent mid-veins
- Pinkish-purple flowers in a long, loose spike
- Cattle find this plant appetizing - it contains an abundance of honey
- High in vitamins A and C
- Can be made into a tea
- Occurs along roadsides and in wet areas; tends to colonize quickly after fires, hence its name
- Territorial flower of the Yukon
- Found at Stop 9
