Epilobium angustifolium L.

 

Plant Description:

  • A very noticeable roadside flower, growing up to 150 cm
  • Sword-shaped leaves that are opposite from each other, with prominent mid-veins
  • Pinkish-purple flowers in a long, loose spike
  • Cattle find this plant appetizing - it contains an abundance of honey
  • High in vitamins A and C
  • Can be made into a tea
  • Occurs along roadsides and in wet areas; tends to colonize quickly after fires, hence its name
  • Territorial flower of the Yukon
  • Found at Stop 9
