Cattails
Typha latifolia L.
Plant Description:
- Frequently seen marsh plants growing up to 3 m tall
- Young flower spikes (which resemble corn-dogs) can be eaten
- Pollen can be mixed with flour for making muffins, biscuits, pancakes
- Female flowers can be cooked and eaten like corn on the cob
- Caution - cattails can be mistaken for poisonous irises
- Found at Stops 3, 6 and 12
