A plastic lunch bag (zipper-lock bags are the best to ensure a tight seal) Water A pencil |

Instructions |
Fill the plastic bag 3/4 full of water and seal. Stick the pencil in one side of the bag and out through the other. The students will see that no water escapes from the bag. |

Hints |
Using a newly sharpened pencil will make it easier to get it through the bag. | ||
Science Principle |
As the pencil is pushed through the bag, the plastic forms a seal around the pencil so as long as the pencil remains in the hole, the bag should not leak. | ||
