The math trail will begin outside of the front of St. Matthew School. You will follow along with each question trying to be as quiet as possible so you do not disturb any of the students who are working in their classrooms. Do your best and most of all.

Question #1 Outside the Main Entrance of St. Matthew School

Go to the main entrance (by the office) and look at the word St. Matthew School.
  A.How many different words can you make from the letters in the word St. Matthew School?
Example: Math, tool, the











  B.Can you make a sentence from these words without using the same letters twice?









Question #2 Main Office

Count the number of tiles on the ceiling in the reception area.
  A.How many are there altogether, not including the principal's office or the vice-principal's office? _______________

  B.Is there an easier way to calculate the number of tiles using multiplication?
Example: 2 x 3 = 6







  C.Draw the shape of these tiles. What shape are they? _____________







Question #3 Multi-Purpose Room

Go to the quilt in the multi-purpose room.

  B.How many candles are there altogether? ___________



Question #4 Multi-Purpose Room

Look at the windows in the multi-purpose room.
  A.How many windows are there? _________

  B.How many panes of glass are there in all three windows? _________

  C.Do you like cleaning windows? ________




Question #5 Library

  A.How many chairs are there in the whole library, not including the bean bag chairs? _______________

  B.Guess how many books there are in the library. _____________




Question #6 Kindergarten Classroom

  A.In the kindergarten room, look at the stars hanging from the ceiling.
How many silver stars are there? ___________

Question #7 Kindergarten Classroom

Look at the tables at the front of the room.
  How many students are girls _____ and boys _____?

How many kindergarten students are there altogether? ________



Question #8 Gym

Go to the gym and look at the lines on the floor.
  A.What are the colors of these lines?




  B.What shapes do these colors make? Draw a picture of the shapes with their names underneath them.





Question # 9: Boot Racks

Go to Mrs. Farris' grade 1/2 boot rack.
  A.How many shelves are there to put shoes or boots on? ______

  B.How many pairs of shoes will fit on one shelf? ________

  C.If this many pairs of shoes can fit on one shelf, how many pairs of shoes will fit on all the shelves? ___________




Question # 10: Entire School
  A.How many doors are there in the whole school, including the bathroom doors, janitor's doors, and divider doors separating the boot rack areas that have windows or pains of glass? ______________

  B.If there are 70 doors total, how many doors do not have windows/or pains of glass in them? _________
