For Miss Leier's Grade 2 Class
Fall 2001


  Students will be placed in small groups with an adult in each group. Please follow the instructions carefully. The adult in each group is the group leader. He/she can provide clarification if the question is unclear. If there is not enough space provided, please use the back of the sheet.

Please remember that it is not important if you finish all of the questions or not. You may not. It is important that you think about the questions and even more important that you have FUN!!!

Question #1: Mrs. Leier's Room

  a)If everyone in Miss Leier's class were to receive three strikes each in one day, how many strikes in total would there be?



  b)Since Miss Leier's class is so well behaved, what if each person worked off their strikes so that they only had one strike each. How many strikes would there be then?


Question #2: Mrs. Leier's Room

In Miss Leier's classroom, above the window, is a list of the days of the week.
  a)How many days of the week are there? List them.


  b)How many vowels are there in this list?


  c)How many consonants?


Question #3: Gymnasium

Look at the large green and black rectangles drawn on the gym floor.
  a)How many steps does it take to walk around the green rectangle?



  b)What about the black one?



  c)How many does it take if you run around each one?


Question #4: Library

  a)What shape is the book return slot? Draw it.


  b)Why do you think they made it this shape?


  c)Do you think it should be made bigger or smaller? Why?



Question #5: Library

Go to the easy read section of the library.
  a) How many books do you think are there?


  b)How many books do you think there are in the whole library?



  c)What about the whole school?




Question #6: South Hallway

Look at the pictures of the graduating classes from St. Angela's in the south hallway by the rotunda.
  a)Find the graduating class from the year 2000. How many boys graduated? How many girls?

  b)How many boys are there in your class? How many girls are there? (Hint: you may need to list them or even go back to you classroom to check)

  c)How many more boys were there in the graduating class of 2000 than in your class? How many more girls?

Question #7: Rotunda

Look at the ceiling in the rotunda?
  a)What kinds of shapes do you see? List them.


  b)Can you draw some of the shapes?



Question #8: Rotunda

In the rotunda there is a picture of an eagle with the sentence "On Eagle's Wings We Soar" written on it. Make some new words using only the letters in this sentence.


Question #9: (Can be done anywhere in school)

You will need your ruler for this question!
  a)Trace your hand on the space provided.


  b)How many centimeters long is you hand?



  c) Now compare the size of your hand with the size of your group leader's? How many centimeters long do you think his/her hand is?



  d)Find your principal or vice principal if you can. Compare the size of your hand with his/hers? How many centimeters long do you think his/her hand is?




Question #10: (Can be done anywhere in school)

In the milk program at St. Angela's milk bought at lunch time costs $0.45.
  a)If your mother gives you two quarters for milk at lunch, how much change will you get back?

  b)What else do you think you could buy for two quarters?

  c)You found two more quarters in your book bag, so now you have $1. How many milk can you buy now?
